Trip Summary

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha – Soraypampa

  • Early Pickup: Begin your adventure with a hotel pickup between 5:00 and 5:15 a.m.
  • Scenic Drive: Enjoy a 2.5-hour drive through picturesque Andean landscapes, including views of the Salkantay Mountain and high Andean villages.
  • Mollepata Stop: At 2,900 meters, stop in Mollepata for breakfast and last-minute supplies (e.g., ponchos, batteries, sunscreen).
  • Challacancha: Arrive at 3,675 meters, meet your trekking team, and prepare for the hike. Brief orientation provided.
  • Hike to Soraypampa: Trek for 2 hours, viewing the Humantay Glacier (5,917 meters).
  • Soraypampa Camp: At 3,850 meters, lunch is served. Afterward, hike for 1.5 hours to the Humantay Lake for stunning views, then return to camp.
  • Evening: Enjoy tea time, dinner, and overnight camping.

Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Chaullay

  • Early Start: Begin at 5:00 a.m. after breakfast.
  • Trek to Salkantay Pass: Ascend to Salkantaypampa (4,100 meters), then continue to Soyrococha (4,400 meters) for a snack break.
  • Salkantay Pass: Reach the highest point at 4,632 meters, between the Humantay (5,917 meters) and Salkantay (6,271 meters) mountains.
  • Descent to Wayracpampa: Descend for 2 hours to Wayracpampa for lunch.
  • Continue to Chaullay: Trek for 3.5 hours through changing vegetation and climate to reach the Chaullay camp.
  • Overnight Stay: Dinner and camping at Chaullay.

Day 3: Chaullay – La Playa – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes

  • Early Morning: Start at 5:00 a.m. after breakfast.
  • Trek to La Playa: Walk for 6 hours, observing diverse flora and fauna, natural waterfalls, orchids, and small fruit plants.
  • Lunch at La Playa: Enjoy a meal at 2,200 meters, then take a bus to Hidroeléctrica.
  • Final Trek to Aguas Calientes: Hike for 3 hours along scenic routes to Aguas Calientes.
  • Check-In: Rest at your hostel, followed by dinner and final preparations for visiting Machu Picchu.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco

  • Machu Picchu Options:
    • Option 1: Hike for 1.5 hours up the staircase path to the entrance.
    • Option 2: Take a bus (cost: $12 one way, $24 round trip).
  • Guided Tour: Enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu (2,490 meters).
  • Return to Aguas Calientes: Head back to town for lunch at a local restaurant of your choice.
  • Train to Ollantaytambo: Board the train for a 1.5-hour journey.
  • Transfer to Cusco: Private transport from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, approximately 1.5 hours.

Itinerary

DAY 1:

MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMP

Very early at 4:30 a.m. we will depart from Cusco in a private tourist bus through the towns of Limatambo arriving Mollepata, where we will be approximately at 7:00 a.m. where we will make a brief stop for breakfast, then we will start our hike reaching Cruz Pata, we will continue towards Soraypampa, during the walk we can take beautiful pictures of the snow-capped mountains that are in front. Finally, when we arrive at the camp we will have dinner and spend the night under the clear starry sky.

After the energetic breakfast 6:30 a.m. we will continue with our hike, going through the whole canyon of salkantay until we arrive to the pass where we will rest and enjoy  of the majestic view,  then we will descend until huayraq  where we will taste our lunch, then we will resume the walk entering landscapes of the eyebrow of jungle, in this section we will appreciate formations of the rivers that then become tributaries of the Urubamba River, the beautiful landscape of flora and fauna as the great varieties of orchids and waterfalls of great magnitude, we will arrive to Chaullay place where we will spend the night.

This day we will continue with our journey after a comfortable breakfast, we will begin our walk appreciating a great variety of coca crops, in tropical areas where we will have many varieties of fruits, this last stretch will be downhill to the beach and from there we take a transport to Santa Teresa and then to reach Hidroelectrica. In Hidroeléctrica we start again with our tour to get to Aguas Calientes or you can also take the train that leaves from Hidroeléctrica Aguas Calientes (optional service). Where we will spend the night.

In the early morning at around 4:30 a.m. we will ascend to the majestic Inca city of Machupicchu. In the morning we will ascend to the majestic Inca city of Machupicchu where we will visit accompanied by our guide for about 2 hours and the rest of the day you will have free time in which you can visit Huaynapicchu (optional), Inti Punku, but we will return in the afternoon to Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu village) depending on the schedule of our return train which we will announce once you book your trip with our company, transfer from Ollantaytambo to the imperial city of Cusco.
