Itinerary

DAY 1:

Salt mines tour, Maras & Mora

We will meet at your hotel at 8:30 p.m. in our tourist bus to start our tour of the following places:

Maras:

Located in the western part of Cusco at 3300 meters above sea level from there we can see the Urubamba mountain range and the Nevado de Veronica (5682 meters above sea level) and the Chikon (5530 meters above sea level). At present this attractive town saved the pre-Hispanic, colonial and republican period.

Moray:

It is located approximately 7 km southwest of Maras, 53 km from Cusco, with an altitude of 3,385 m.a.s.l. is a unique archaeological group of its kind in the region. It consists of natural depressions or gigantic pits that were used by the Incas who built terraces and platforms with their respective agricultural irrigation channels in their contours, where they obtained incredible advances in agriculture.

Salt mines:

It is also called “salt mines” is located northwest of the city of Maras it consists of about 3000 small wells.

During the dry season they are filled every three days with salt water emanating from a natural spring located at the top of the wells so that as the water evaporates, the salt contained in the fat gradually solidifies, the salt is whipped and well granulated; the salt will be packaged and sent to the markets of the region; today this salt is iodized for this reason, its consumption is not harmful.

Finally we return to the city of Cusco at 15:30 p.m. approximately. Duration: 6-7 hours approximately.
