Cusco South Valley Tour

1 Day from US $ 100.00

Experience the Southern Cusco Valley Tour. This Tour to Tipon, Pikillacta and Andahuaylillas is known for the combination of three styles of architecture: Inca in Tipon, pre-Inca in Pikillacta, colonial in Andahuaylillas with its beautiful Chapel.

In the Southern Cusco Valley Tour, we will visit 2 Inca ruins surrounded by Andean landscapes. Learn about Inca Hydrology in Tipon “Water Management”, visit “Pikillaqta” one of the remains of Pre Inca construction and enjoy a wonderful colonial church during the Andahuaylillas Tour, known as the “Sistine Chapel” due to its extensive colonial decoration and paintings.

Tipón:

Tipon is one of the best examples of agricultural terraces created by the Incas. It was a ceremonial center for water and agricultural production was very important, contains 12 terraces that are currently cultivated, our walls were built with finely carved stones. These terraces extend through the narrow valley and are fed by springs coming from the apu (mountain) Pachatusan. There is also a complex of temples, irrigation canals and aqueducts.

Pikillaqta:

Pikillaqta was a pre-Inca citadel built south of Cusco. This complex made of adobe was built by the Wari culture, between 700 and 900 AD, shows a complex of more than 700 buildings, including kanchas, qolqas and houses. The city has a very harmonious and almost perfect geometric design, divided into blocks and with straight streets. Ciudadela that during its heyday must have had a population of about 10 thousand people.

Andahuaylillas:

Andahuaylillas is one of the colonial towns south of Cusco. In this village specified an ancient church known as “The Sistine Chapel of America”. The chapel is quite simple and modest on the outside. However, once inside you can see the wonderful interior decorated by works of art of the famous “Cusco School”. This church was built over some important Inca construction, possibly a “Waka” since the bases of the church were made with carved andesites typical of Quechua religious architecture.
